BATSMEN TAKE CHARGE
BIG SCORING IN COUNTY CRICKET EXPERTS SURMISING (United V.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (-,Australian Frees Associations Reed. 9.5 &.m. LONDON, Monday. The week-end orgy of big scoring is engaging the attention of experts, who largely blame the absence of good bowlers, combined with hard-baked wickets. George Hirst is of opinion that the groundsman holds the secret of the hard wickets beating the bowlers. The Only thing is t otake a bit out of the wicket, and restore its life. Something must be done. J. W. H. T. Douglas says so much cricket is played that it means a tremendous strain on the endurance of the fast bowler. The smaller ball has boomeranged in favour of the batsmen. It is killing the swerve bowler, simply because it is impossible to swing it. In the county matches, which were continued to-day, Worcestershire in the second innings made 188 (Jupp four for 59). Northemptonshire in the second innings made 97 for five (Root four for 37).
