FOOTBALL GATES
ASSOCIATION PERTURBED KING’S BIRTHDAY GAMES The gates so far at Blandford Park this season have not been satisfactory, and this caused the Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association some concern last evening. The Financial Committee reported that the average gate takings at the park for the first five Saturdays last season was £63 Os lid, and that so far this winter the average was £42 17s. Various causes of this drop were brought forward by committee members, chief among them being that football weather had not set in yetMr. Wilkes suggested that the bad name Blandford Park received last winter still stuck to it, when in reality, it was probably the best playing area in Auckland to-day. Mr. Baker’s opinion was that Auckland was missing such great players as Kissling and Dacre, who had been' a great attraction in previous years. “They were worth hundreds of pounds to the football association,” he said. “As business men,” said the chairman, Mr. Menzies, we expect a slight increase every season. I believe, however, that the other codes are in a similar position to us.” Sine© the association inaugurated its insurance scheme, it has been inundated with claims. All such are to be kept strictly under view by the Financial Committee in future. The differences which arose between the Management Committee and the Judicial Committee at last week’s meeting were all settled at the meeting at Blandford Park on Saturday, according to the report of the chairman. He assured delegates that in future all players would get a fair hearing. Entries fer the Chatham Cup competition were received from the Thistle, Ponsonby, Y.M.C.A.. and Tramway Clubs. The Financial Committee brought to the notice of delegates the fact that as yet about 15 clubs were not financial. If they have not paid the first instalment of their fees by Tuesday next they will be suspended from the competition. The committee decided to stage two representative fixtures on the King’s Birthday holiday. *A Waikato team is to be invited to visit Auckland to play the Auckland A representatives, and the Auckland B reps will play the Navy. Entries for the secondary schools competition will close with the secretary of the Junior Management Committee at 6 p.m. on Tuesday next. On the recommendation of the judicial committee, Green, of Ponsonby, was suspended for two playing Saturdays. Creamer, of Belmont, was regraded from senior to third grade, and A. Smith, North Shore, from senior to second grade. In view of a complaint received from the Comrades Club, it was agreed that all games must be played at scheduled times.
