BOXING ON FRIDAY

McKNIGHT AND HAY GOOD AMATEUR PROGRAMME Auckland fight followers will once again make the acquaintance of the squared circle when Nelson McKnight and Artie Hay will do battle on Friday in the Town Hall. The fight will be of 15 two-minute rounds for a purse of £IOO. McKnight, who recently returned from America, ,is anxious to make a good showing, and he has been training hard. He is in splendid condition, and has been showing good form in his work-outs. Hay last appeared in Auckland when he defeated Jim Broadfoot. He is a shifty boxer, hard to hit and with a punishing blow in each hand. The fight promises to be good, with plenty of hard hitting and clever boxing. An attractive programme of amateur bouts has been arranged. Clarrie McKnight, younger brother of Nelson, will fight a six-round bout with Fred Fraei for a special trophy.

Rickard, New Zealand Varsity feather-weight champion, will meet 33. McCarthy, brother of the Auckland professional, Cyril McCarthy. The other bouts will be between the feather-weights, Mauson and McLoughlin, and the two fly-weights. Crook and Purdy, who gave a good display and fought a draw at the Hick Stack benefit at Carlaw Park. MATCH CANCELLED ASSOCIATION’S ACTION Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Owing to Melton’s poor showing against Leckie the executive of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association has cancelled the Melton-Griffiths contest arranged for May 23.
