A farewell social was tendered in the Taumarunui parish hall to Rev. and Mrs. T. P. Weatherhog, who are leaving the district to visit England. Mr. Seddon Hills paid a tribute to the splendid work done by Mr. Weatherhog during his stay in the district, and on behalf of the parishioners presented him with a cheque, and Mrs. Weatherhog with a- supper cloth. Mrs. Laird, on behalf of the ladies’ guild, spoke of the capable administration of the guild by Mrs. 'Weatherhog, and Mrs. Hikaro, for the Maoris, handed her a kiwi handbag. The recipients suitably replied. Musical items were given by Miss P. V. Frank, Mrs. Weatherhog, Mr. A. S. Laird, Mr. Frank, and Mr. G. Thompson. * * * Advice has been received that a tworoomed school is to be erected at Ngapuke. * * * A general rate of one penny in the £ was struck by the borough council, the lowest rate in the history of Taumarunui. There was a credit balance of £2,260 last year, of which £BSO was taken to assist the general rate. This year the council also transferred £l,lOO from the electricity and water accounts. The council decided to raise a loan, in order to complete the tar-sealing of the borough streets.
