The Davis Cup match between New Zealand and Portugal was begun yesterday at Lisbon. In the singles E. D. Andrews (New Zealand) defeated Pinto Coelho, 6—3, 6—4, 6 —o; "Verda (Portugal), defeated R. T. Young, 6—2, 6—2, 6—3. In the doubles to-day Andrews and Young defeated Verda and Vasscoucellos, 7 —5 4 —6, 6—2, 6—2. Playing at Dublin, Holland defeated Ireland by winning the first three of the five matches. Holland will meet Hungary in the second round.
