NEW POLE-VAULT RECORD

When Sabin W. Carr, of Yale University, achieved the distinction of being the first man ever to clear the bar at 14ft. in a pole vault, he expressed his hope that he would get higher still. And he has done so. Recently, at Madison Square Garden, New York, he cleared 14ft lin. A pandemonium of cheering broke out when the Yale athlete, his body describing a graceful arch, had swung himself swiftly, easily, over the crossbar, to accomplish what a moment before had seemed impossible. A little later Carr attempted to leap 14ft 3in, but his arm knocked down the cross-bar. after he had got over. But it will not be surprising to learn before long that he has accomplished this leap.
