Maharajah and White Wife Arrive at Paris
Bit of Gorgeous East Translated to France CROWDS RUSH TO SEE {United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. 12.55 p.m. LONDON, Sunday. A message from Paris says that crowds of residents and visitors thronged the Chateau Saint Germain, where the French Kings formerly lived, to catch a glimpse of the Maharajah of Indore and his American bride, formerly Miss Nancy Miller, who have just arrived from India. The couple remained Indoors, and the only appearance of their being in residence was an Indian servant. A bit of the gorgeous East has been translated here at a cost of £300,000. Hundreds of painters, plasterers and decorators worked on the chateau for a year, while the Maharajah’s staff includes 30 gardeners and 70 domestics. The sunniest corner in the building is gorgeously fitted up like a fairyland. There is a boudoir for the bride, with nine fountains and hundreds of beautiful cushions.
Cabled invitations are pouring in from America, including the Boosters’ Association of Seattle, the bride’s home town. Hindu circles state that the bride has taken the new religion seriously, and is planning a Hindu crusade to the United States.
