D. Wilkie, goalkeeper for the Areta hockey team, was carried off the field with a strained ligament in his leg in the Areta-Somerville match at Remuera on Saturday. In the same game two Somerville men had to leave the field, W. Gregson, left wing, received a badly cut leg, and G. Cole, centre-half, was cut over the eye with a stick. They returned after treatment by the ambulance. Near the end of the Ponsonby-North Shore game Frankjin, the Shore winger, retired with an injured leg. McManus, the Ponsonby half-back, also had to leave the field with an injured leg. * * * In the Marist-Varsity match Stoupe, Marist wing, cut his head rather badly, and left the field. A. E. Ellis, the rider of Star Stranger 11., in the Trial Handicap at Ashburton, was taken to hospital suffering from concussion. He is also thought to be suffering from internal injuries. * * * Howard, the Marist rover, retired with an injured arm in the course of the Varsity-Marists match. The injury is not serious. * * * In the City v. Grafton game, both Wilkinson and Ruru received injuries, but continued playing. O. Greig, a married man of 26, playing for Parnell second grade Rugby team, had his left shoulder-blade broken and was taken to hospital to be X-rayed. He lives at 14, Tennyson Street, Grey Lynn. * * * F. Moyle, a Newton third grade Rugby player, had his collar-bone broken and his head slightly injured. He was taken to hospital. His home is at 34, Keppel Street, Parnell. One of the Manukau team, Watene, retired temporarily from a match
against College Rifles at Onehunga, with a head injury.
In a League game. Pitcher, of the Xorthcote team, was kicked on the head.
Sweeney left the field with head injuries and King with a bruised shoulder. Both were playing for Marists against Devonport.
An Association player, F. W. Gidley, of H.M.S. Laburnum, was taken to hospital with a cut over his left eye.
In the Grammar Old Boys' Rugby match against Training College, at the Show Grounds, Peacock, of the latter team, suffered a bad cut under the eye, in a melee near the line.
The free ambulance was kept busy at Wellington on Saturday attending no fewer than 26 cases, of which 10 were accidents. Several of these occurred at football matches, one player. R. Bell, fracturing his leg at Soccer.
