PURDY OUTPOINTED

AUCKLANDER IN SYDNEY BEATEN BY IZZARD (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Sunday. At the Sydney Stadium last evening, Izzard (9st 8£lb) defeated Purdy (9st 81b), of New Zealand, on points in a 15-rounds bout. The New Zealander did not display his usual form, but forced the contest in the early rounds and scored rights to the head and body. Izzard boxed coolly and piled up points with straight lefts to the face. He beat the New Zealander at in-fi— 1 -* ting. Purdy improved in the last two rounds, but the Englishman had a good majority of points. The loser, after the match, said he was suffering- from a severe cold. PHIL SCOTT WINS BOUT IN NEW YORK (Australian P.A.—United Service) NEYV YORK, Saturdaj’. The British heavy-weight boxer, Phil Scott, defeated Roberti (Italy) in a 10rounds bout. The loser was nearly knocked out at the final bell. The contest took place at Madison Square Garden. After withstanding a ferocious body attack in the early rounds the British boxer had little difficulty in overcoming the Italian’s lead and winning decisively. This was one of Scott’s most impressive bouts in America. He won principally through the use of right crosses and uppercuts.
