The Log Book

PERSONAL. —The Kawatiri was recommissioned at Auckland on Saturday under the command of Captain W. W. Hender. His deck officers are: Chief, Mr. S. E. Gaskin; second. Mr. F. W. Strong; third, Mr. E. R. Pate. Captain W. Martin is assuming command of the R.M.S. Makura at Sydney this trip, relieving Captain J. F. S. Brown for holidays. Captain A. S. Dalgliesh has been appointed master of the Katoa, vice Captain A. Reed, who is awaiting instructions at Wellington. Mr. T. E. Bevan has relieved Mr. C. Burgess as chief officer of the Komata; the officer is at present standing by at Wellington. Mr. S. B. Ward has joined the Wahine as third officer, relieving Mr. R. F. Dewar for holidays. Mr. S. H. Crawford has been appointed temporary fourth officer of the Manuka, relieving Mr. J. R. Thomas for holidays. HORORATA LOADING. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Hororata arrived at Auckland this morning from Wellington and berthed at the Queen’s Wharf to commence her loading. She is to leave here to-morrow afternoon for Napier, thence Lyttelton and Wellington, to fill up and is scheduled to sail finally on May 31 for London, via Panama. PORT DUNEDIN FROM HOME.—The C. and D. Line’s motor-ship Port Dunedin arrived at Port Chalmers on Saturday evening from London and berthed yesterday to land her passengers, mails and part cargo. From the Otago port the Fort Dunedin proceeds to Lyttelton, thence New Plymouth to complete her discharge, after which she commences loading at the Taranaki port, thence Wanganui, Timaru, Lyttelton and "Wellington to fill up. She is to sail finally from Wellington on June 20 for London, via Panama,

NAURU CHIEF FOR OCEAN ISLAND. | Henderson and Macfarlane advise that the tramp steamer Nauru Chief leaves Auckland to-morrow for Ocean Island. I where she loads for Australia. KIA ORA POSTPONED. —The deparI ture of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Comi panv’s steamer Kia Ora, from Wellington I for London, has been postponed until o I o’clock this afternoon.

H.M.S. DIOMEDE DOCKS.—H.M.S. Diomede went into dock early this afternoon for cleaning 1 and painting, which will occupy about four days. She sails for England next Saturday. PUKEKO ARRIVES AT NAPIER—The Richardson Company’s new steamer Pukeko arrived at Napier from England this morning, according to advice received by Watkins and Wallis.

HERMINIUS REPORTED. —The Shaw. Savill and Albion steamer Herminius is reported to have reached Panama last Thursday. The vessel was dispatched from Wellington on April 17 for London, Avonmoutli, Liverpool and Glasgow.

TEKOA LEAVES LONDON.—CabIe advice received states that the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Tekoa left London last Thursday for Suva, Auckland and Wellington. She is expected here about June 16.

NUCULA SAILS TO-DAY.-The naval oil-tanker Nucula is expected to sail today for Marqusas Islands, where she will bunker H.M.S. Diomede on the journey to England. Afterwards the Nucula will go to San Pedro to take in bulk oil for use on the New Zealand naval station.

SUSSEX FROM CALCUTTA.—An expected arrival at Auckland to-morrow is the Union Company’s chartered steamer Sussex, from Calcutta and way ports The vessel is bringfng the usual Eastern merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin.

KANNA FOR WALPOLE ISLAND.— The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the collier Kanna is to load at Greymouth on Friday for Auckland. After discharge here, the Kanna proceeds to Noumea, thence Walpole Island, where she loads for Bluff.

SOMERSET FOR HOME. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal steamer Somerset, at present completing her loading at Wellington, leaves there at 6 a.m. on Wednesday for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool, via Panama. SULPHUR FROM TEXAS. The French steamer Leopold L. D., en route from Galveston, Texas, cleared Balboa on April 29. The vessel has a full cargo of sulphur for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth and Geelong. She is expected at Auckland toward the end of May. Messrs. R. Millar and Company are the local agents. RUAHINE AT COLON —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine is reported by cable to have reached Colon last Thursday. The vessel is from London and Southampton with passengers, mails and cargo for New Zealand. The cgirgo will be unloaded at Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on June 1 and at Auckland about June 15. TOFUA DUE 3 P.M. TO-DAV.—A radio message received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island passenger steamer Tofua is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at three o’clock this afternoon from Suva. She will later berth at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails, and cargo. At 11 a.m. next Saturday the Tofua leaves Auckland on her return trip to Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. QUEEN ELEANOR REPORTS.—A A radio message received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the tramp steamer Queen Eleanor is expected to arrive at Auckland at 6 a.m. to-morrow from Montreal, via New York. She will later berth at the Prince’s Wharf to land the local portion of her cargo before proceeding to Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete. AORANGI REPORTS.—The local office of the Union Company has been advised by radio that the R.M.M.S. Aorangi, en route from Vancouver, is expected to arrive at Suva at 7 a.m. on Thursday. She is to leave the Fijian port at 1 p.m. the same day for Auckland, where she is due on Sunday next. May 20. At noon the following day the Aorangi sails from Auckland for Sydney.

TAMAROA DISCHARGING.—At present completing her discharge of London cargo at Auckland, under the auspices of A. S. Patei'son and Co., the Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Tamaroa will commence loading at this port for her return vovage. She is to leave Auckland again next Friday for Port Chalmers, thence Lvttelton and Wellington to complete loading, and is scheduled to clear the latter port finally at 6 a.m. on June 9 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

CANADIAN TRANSPORTER’S MOVEMENTS. —The Canadian National Steamship Line advises that the Canadian Transporter arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Wellington and leaves to-mor-row for Timaru and Dunedin to complete her discharge and to continue her loading. From Dunedin the vessel proceeds to Wellington, thence Auckland, to complete and is expected to return to this port on May 24. She is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on May 25 for New York, Boston and Montreal, via Panama. TASMANIA AT NEW PLYMOUTH.— An arrival at New Plymouth yesterday morning was the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Tasmania from Townsville, Queensland. The vessel is to commence loading at the Taranaki port and leaves on Wednesday for Opua and Auckland. She is due here next Saturday, and after loading at this port, sails on May 22 for Napier, thence Lyttelton and Wellington, to complete. The Tasmania is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on June 2 for West of England ports, via Montevideo and Las Palmas.
