YOUTHFUL MARAUDERS
HOUSE RANSACKED £IOO DAMAGE DONE GANG OF FOUR PUNISHED Holiday idleness and a highly developed streak of destructiveness were responsible for the actions of four boys charged before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Children’s Court this morning, with breaking into a house and doing damage to) the extent of over £IOO.
At Easter-time the boys had broken 38 panes of glass in a house, and, entering the premises, had “turned the place upside down.” They had taken provisions from the pantry and thrown them on the floor, broken various articles of household furniture, and decamped with jewellery, which they threw into the gardens of adjoining residences.
With £4 10s in money, which was a portion of the loot from the house, the boys went to Luna Park, where they succeeded in spending it all. Regarded as the ringleader of the gang, one boy was committed to the care of the superintendent of child welfare. The parents of the other three were asked to see that adequate punishment was administered at home. A fifth boy, who had been a passive spectator of the Easter celebrations, was put under the care of the welfare officer for two years.
