FANCY DRESS DANCE DEVONPORT GUIDES The No. 1 Company of Guides, at Devonport, is an active group and during the winter promotes several social evenings; the first for this season was held last evening in the Parish Hall, Devonport, when the Guides exhibited tlieir ingenuity in fancy dress designing. The prizes for best fancy costumes were allocated on the vote of the juniors themselves. First prize for the best fancy dregs girl went to Miss Patty Oliver, Lady of the Harem; the second to Miss Joan Smith, Chinaman; for the boys, Ivan Bushell as Blue Beard, was awarded first place and Sydney Bushell as Sleepless Night, second. HAMILTON NOTES (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Friday. Miss E. Neckar, headmistress of the Diocesan School in l-lamilton, is spending the vacation in Rotorua and Gisborne. Mrs. M. Marshall, of Marton, is the guest of Mrs. F. M. Spencer. Mrs. Pountney, who has been in Rotorua, has returned to Hamilton. Mrs. Beaver is a Gisborne visitor to Hamilton. Miss Denning is spending the vacation in Auckland. Miss Carter left on Wednesday for W ellington. Mrs. F. S. Harvie has returned home after a visit to Wellington. Miss Ruth Swainson, of Feilding, who has been visiting friends in Hamilton, has gone on to Rotorua. Miss V. Louis, of Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs. Gothorpe in Fairfield. Miss Willisden is holiday-making in Wellington. ST. PAUL'S GUILD At the last meeting of St. Paul’s Ladies’ Guild advantage was taken by the members to make a presentation of a beautiful beaten cobber tray to their president, Mrs. H. C. Baulf. Mrs. Baulf leaves Hamilton shortly to live in Papakura. * » * FAREWELL PARTY On Wednesday evening Mrs. Hugh Douglas gave a bridge party in honour of Mrs. M. E. Thomson, who leaves shortly for Capetown, via Australia. The party was held in the Wattle Tea Rooms, which were decorated with gold and brown chrysanthemums and autumn foliage. Mrs. Douglas received her guests in a frock of russet panne velvet and gold lace. Mrs. Thomson was in black lace and georgette. The other guests present were: Mesdames A. S. CROQUET “AT HOME” On Thursday the Pukekohe Croquet Club gave a most successful “At Home,” visitors being present from the Ellerslie, Otahuhu, Manurewa, Papakura, Buckland and Mauku Clubs.
