ORATORIO CONCERT

MENDELSSOHN’S “ELIJAH” The Town Hall will be the centre of attraction for Auckland music lovers on Thursday night, the occasion being the presentation of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” by the Auckland Choral Society. This will be the first concert of the season and for the occasion a strong team of soloists lias been engaged, as follow: Soprano, Miss Alma McGruer; mezzo soprano, Miss L. Wood; contralto, Miss Ina Thompson; second contralto, Miss P. James; tenor, Mr. Birrell O’Malley; second tenor, Mr. C. Leather; baritone, Mr. Lawrence North; bass, Mr. T. B. Rowe; boy soprano, Master Campbell. Of the prinicpal soloists, Miss McGruer, Miss Thompson and Mr. Birrell O’Malley are well and favourably

known and can be relied upon to acquit themselves with distinction. Mr. Lawrence North is a Dunedin singer of some repute and well versed in oratorio. His first appearance in Auckland wil lbe awaited with interest. Under the direction of Mr. Colin Muston, L.R.A.M., both chorus and orchestra are said to have attained a high standard and should contribute largel yto what gives promise of being a very interesting performance. The box plan opens at the E. and F. Piano Agency on Monday.
