CRUSHED BY FRAME
ONE KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED NEWMARKET FATALITY A heavy steel wagon frame sfippad from the crane-hook as it was being unloaded at the Newmarket workshops yesterday afternoon and struck a labourer. Edward Reid, fracturing his skull. Death was instantaneous. A second labourer, George Busby, was struck a glancing blow, and escaped with severe head injuries. Wagon frames weighing between two and three tons each, were being unloaded from trucks on a siding alongside the upper engineering workshop facing Manukau Road. As one was being hoisted and swung round a chain slipped. One end of the frame dropped, pinning Mr. Reid to the ground and striking Mr. Busby on the bead and shoulders, stunning him. The, St. John Ambulance and Dr. M. G. Pezaro arrived in a few minutes, and the injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital. After an X-ray examination he was taken to his home at 1 Onslow Road, Epsom. Mr. Reid was a single man of about 45. He lived in McLeod Road. Henderson.
