RAILWAYMEN’S DECISION
SICK BENEFIT FUND * PAY FOR UNCOMPENSATED MEN Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The railway men of th© second division recently vote*d on the question of adopting alternative proposals as a basis for a national sick benefit scheme in their service, carrying a departmental subsidy of £1 for £1 up to £ 8,000 annually. A total of 9,658 railway men voted, 8,400 favouring the application of the funds wholly to the payment of the benefit to members unable to work as the result of sickness or injury, who are not in receipt of workers’ compensation, and 1,258 favoured application of the funds partly in sick-bene-fit and partly to the payment of allowance, not exceeding 15s weekly, to members in receipt of workers’ compensation.
The accepted scheme is expected to provide sick benefit of £2 5s weekly.
