BOERS TREK BACK
DISSATISFIED IN ANGOLA (Unite.! I'.A.—By Telegraph Copyright) (Australian Brens Association.) Reed. 10.50 a.m. CAPETOWN, Thurs. The South-West Assembly, which is equally divided between German and pro-Unionists. decided, on the casting vote of the chairman, to pass a vote of £50,000 for the settlement of the Angola Boers in the South-West. The Union provided the money, but the Auditor-General insisted on the adoption of the plan by the Assembly. The vote was discussed for seven hours. The Administrator stressed his efforts to respect German sentiment. If the House rejected the vote, it might be interpreted as race prejudice. The Governor-General now orders he vote to pass. The Boers who trekked to Angola after the war number a thousand. They are dissatisfied with Portuguese conditions chiefly, and do not recognise Afrikaans, which ts the medium of education in Northern Rhodesia.
