AN APPEAL FOR THE POOR
Sir, — It is my duty once more to appeal through your valued paper for the generous assistance of the people of Auckland on behalf of its poor. The winter is upon us, and already our Samaritan officer, Major Gordon, is feeling the need of the wherewithal to meet the wants of the women and children who are suffering, many for food, clothing, and bedding, as well as firing. As the year advances, this will increase, and our hope is that the friends of the poor will again open their hearts and hands to enable Major Gordon to carry on her work. It seems needless to remind your readers %hat in giving their gifts through Major Gordon that her long experience of 18 years’ service in Auckland is sufficient guarantee that the utmost good will be performed, and that those who are most deserving will receive the benefit of their kindly offerings, which may be in money, clothing, or food supplies. Your gift will be gratefully acknowledged, and can be sent to Major Gordon, Samaritan office, "Wellesley Street, or care Lieut.-Colonel Toomer. J. J. TOOMER. Lieut.-Colonel.
