GOLFING FEATS

AN AFRICAN EVENT Even in these days of high-powered cars 240 miles a day are considered a fair day’s work, but two Afrikanders added nine holes on each of four different courses to this. The two were T. E. Hateley, vice-captain of the Kairobi Golf Club, and Colonel Ley. Hound the 19th hole one evening in the Nyeri Golf Club, arguments were raised as to whether or not it was possible to play nine holes In a day in each of the four courses, Nairobi, Gilgil, Njoro and Eldoret. This meant that between the hours of 5.45 a.m. and 6.30 p.m., the player had to travel 240 miles m indifferent roads by car and play four rounds of nine holes each. The general impression in the club was that anyone undertaking to accomplish such a feat would have but a very outside chance of success, but Mr. Hateley took up the challenge and backed himself to do it. So, accompanied by Colonel Lev, he set out, and successfully accomplished the task with ten minutes to spare.
