Motor Lorry Knocks Young Woman Down

SEVERE INJURIES INFLICTED HAD NEARLY REACHED HOME A fracture of the base of the skull, a broken collar-bone, and injuries to both legs were received by Miss D. Woods, aged 18 years, when she was knocked down by a motor-lorry outside her home in Hauraki Street, Birkenhead, last evening. Miss Woods alighted from a bus and went to run across the road when a lorry driven by Joseph Hector King, of Kaukapakapa, knocked her down. The driver and a companion helped Miss Woods from under the truck and assisted her to her home. Dr. Craven, on finding the injuries stated, ordered her removal to the Auckland Hospital. Her condition is regarded as serious.
