FORTY YEARS’ WORK
EDUCATION OFFICER RETIRES After 40 years in the service of the Auckland Education Board as a clerk, Mr. R. P. J. Ray, assistant secretary, is to retire at the end of August. This is believed to be a record for long service with on education board in New Zealand. Mr. Roy is at present on leave, not having been in good health lately. “We will be very sorry to lose services of Mr. Roy,” commented Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the board, yesterday. Recently Mr. Ray’s duties have been mainly connected with the department dealing with teachers’ appointments, and in that work he has rendered excellent service. He acted as secretary for six months during the illness of the late Mr. R. Crowe when the latter occupied that position. Mr. Ray. who was born in England, came to New Zealand at an early age, and after becoming a pupil teacher, entered the service of the board. He has been assistant secretary for some years.
