TOBACCO THIEVES
NEWMARKET BURGLARY ENTRANCE THROUGH BACK WINDOW Thieves broke into the tobacconist’s shop of Mr. Robert Martin, Broadway, Newmarket, some time last night, and stole tobacco and cigarettes valued at £3O. When Mr. Martin arrived at his shop this morning, he found that three shelves had been cleared of their contents. The .stolen, goods consisted mainly of tinned cigarettes and fancy cabinets. The thieves broke in through a window in the rear of the shop, opening on to a courtyard. They-then opened the rear doors of the shop, which were found ajar this morning.. Entrance to the main shop was gained by forcing a door by means of a Jemmy. As the rear window was some distance from the. ground, a large packing case was up-ended, and from this the top sash of the window was lowered, and allowed the intruders to climb through* Evidently the thieves were disturbed in the course of their operations, as the main portion of Mr. Martin’s stock was not touched. No money was stolen.
