BUYING A DEAD ONE
the eve of the Cambridge fi.-ture several horses figuring on the card for the cup were being auctioned, when a bid for Wallroon caused a spectator to interject “He’s dead.” “Oh, there’s often dead ones in this aame,” replied the man on the stool. A further bid was made for the animal when again the voice rang out, “I tell you he’s dead.” The buyer took no notice of the information and finally secured his fancy at a reasonable figure. He soon became a sadder but wiser man, as it was then found that Wallroon had died a few days previously in Hamilton.
