STOLE TO GET WARM
WAIKATO STATION ROBBERIES TEMPTED AND YIELDED (From Our Oxen Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. A sequel to the recent burglaries at Hamilton and Claudeiands railway station was the appearance in the Police Court to-day of Christopher James White, who pleaded guilty to three charges of breaking and entering the Hamilton Station and stealing a suitcase and contents, valued £9 17s. breaking *nto the counting-house and stealing two suit cases, a ring and a pair of shoes valued at £34, and breaking into the Claudeiands Stat:on and stealing an umbrella and 2s. Accused, was committed to the Auckland Supreme Court for trial. In a statement to the police. White said he had been out of employment l for some time, and when he went to l the station he was under the influence of liquor. He felt cold, and entere the station with the object of setting: 1 something warm to wear. While there he was tempted to take two suitcases. He slept in the park near the i lake all night. Next day he sold a suitcase. ITe was a returned soldier, still suffering from tuberculosis, and the acts, he said, were unpremeditated. An order was made for the return of the goods.
