MEDICAL TRAINING WOULD HELP TEACHERS
HEADMASTER’S OPINION
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. “I suggest that school teachers should be given a certain amount of medical training to enable them to help in checking disease/’ said Mr. A. C. Maxwell, headmaster of the Phillipstown School, this morning to the Minister of Health, Hon. J. A. Young. “I have not heard the suggestion before, but it is a valuable one, and I certainly think it should be made to the Minister of Education,” said Mr. Young. “I thought the syllabus was already as full as it could be made.” ‘‘We could omit some of the subjects,” replied Mr. Maxwell. ' The Minister said the suggestion was well worth consideration by the education authorities, and possibly the hospital boards could do something along those lines. Propaganda work regarding the care of the body and the value of sunshine and fresh air was very valuable. Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P.: I think the department is doing a very good work along those lines at present. The Minister said it was hoped to go even further, and he thought the hospital boards could have nurses who would be available to go out to people’s homes.
