MINES IDLE

MEN PROTEST AGAINST COMRADES’ FINES RESULT OF ILLEGAL STRIKE Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Wednesday. As a protest against the fining of 338 miners for holding an illegal strike, all the West Coast mines were idle to-day. The 338 miners from the Millerton district were proceeded against by the Inspector of Awards for a breach of the Labour Disputes Investigation Act by holding an illegal strike. They were fined an aggregate of £159 10s, with costs. The mines were also idle yesterday, when the miners celebrated May Day.
