OSTEND ROAD DISTRICT
PROGRESSIVE YEAR The year had been one of steady progress, said Mr. F. H. Brown, chairman of the Ostend Road Board, at the annual meeting of ratepayers of the Ostend district last evening. The policy of the board during the year, he said, had been to maintaiu the roads and extend them in the order of importance, and £473 had been spent on general maintenance. Receipts totalled £1.452, and expenditure £1,308, leaving a credit balance of £ 144. A resolution was carried unanimously expressing appreciation of the services to the ratepayers of Mr. H. T. Garratt, who had been chairman of the board from its inception in 1921. Appreciation was also expressed at Mr. E. W. Griffiths’ action in withdrawing his nomination for membership on the board in order to save the expense of an election.
