Work for 400

STATE’S RELIEF MEASURE LABOUR MEMBERS’ PLEA Arrangements are being made by the Government to afford additional relief work for 400 men in Auckland. In reply to concerted representation which was made to the Government at the beginning of %.e week, the Auckland Labour members of Parliament have received a communication from the Prime Minister conveying this decision, and outlining the relief which has been afforded the unemployed in Auckland. The telegram is worded: “Your telegram respecting unemployment situation in Auckland received. The Government has since the middle of February placed 435 men on relief work in the Auckland district, and arrangements are being made to find work to absorb an additional 400 men as soon as possible. “When the contractors commence operations in connection with the new railway station at Auckland, the position should be considerably eased.”
