NELSON SYSTEM IN SCHOOLS A reduction in school hours automatically comes with the adoption o the “Nelson” system of Bible reading, according to an opnion expressed a; the Auckland Education Board to-dav The Hamilton Ministers* Association wrote asking for permission to allow school hours to be 241 a week in all schools of the district, where the ’ Nelson” sytem had been adopted, in order to give one half-hour's Bible lesson a week. "We would be looking for trouble in this,” said Mr. F. A. Snell. Mr. S. B. Sims: It should be outside school hours. The secretary, Mr. E. C. Purdie. sa’d that under£the “Nelson” system tY\ hours were automatically decreased by half an hour. Answering a question, he said that the children who did not take the Bible lesson, did their ordinary work. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, suggested that the committees of the schools should be left to decide the question. Mr. Sims said he believed all the committees in Hamilton had applied for the system. The Chairman: Is it the wish of the committees to shorten the hours?—l'm not sure. “If it is outside the school hours there is no need to ask the board’s permission,” said the secretary. It was stated that having received permission to adopt the system, a committee did not need to apply again to shorten the hoftrs.
