CHILD BADLY HURT
CAR AND TRAM COLLIDE ACCIDENT IN QUEEN ST. Nellie Casey, aged three, daugh ter of Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent of railways for the North Island, was badly injured in a collision between a motor-car and a tram at the corner of Fort and Queen Streets about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She is in the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition. An operation will be performed this afternoon. The motor-car was driven by Mis; Joyce Johnson, of 67 Great South Road and was turning into Fort Street. li had passed behind a tram-car going down Queen Street and was crossing the outward set of rails when struel by another tram going in the opposite direction. The little girl was sitting in the front seat and was crushed by the force of the impact, her left leg being fractured. The motorman carried her immediately into a nearby chemist's shop. She was later taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance The accident happened during the rush period, and before the wrecked car. which bad the front axla broken and a wheel wrenched off. could he moved from the rails, the line of wait - ing trams extended round the corner into Customs Street. None of the other occupants of th« car was injured, although one woman is suffering slightly from shock.
