BOMBSHELL THROWN INTO SWIMMING CIRCLES

TREASURER’S LETTER “CENTRE BETRAYING SPORT” Expressing himself as dissatisfied with the treatment accorded him by the Auckland Swimming Centre because it has so far ignored his letter, Mr. E. A. Edenborough, who resigned from the position of treasurer to that body, has forwarded the following copy of his letter to THE SUN for publication. The letter was received at the last meeting: of the centre, but its contents and the subsequent discussion was taken in committee, on the motion of the chairman, Mr. J. Enwright. Mr. Edenborough wrote: “Sir, —• “I have to ask you to accept my resignation of the position of honorary treasurer to the centre. This step is taken as a protest against the manner in which the sport has been wantonly prostituted and betrayed by the centre in connection with "the Regent diving competition. My strong disapproval of its action in the matter leaves me no other course but to resign. “I shall, of course, leave everything in order, and will, after the books have been audited, say, in about three weeks’ time, hand them over to my successor. “I also resign as a delagate for the Waitemata Club, as I have lost all respect for the centre members, and do not wish to be further associated with them. Consequently I shall not be present at any further meetings.” C. A. EDENBOROUGH. When the recent question of allowing the management of the Regent Theatre to conduct a diving competition came before the centre, Mr. Edenborough was the only delegate who opposed it. His ground for so doing was that it was purely a commercial affair, and would do no good to swimming in Auckland. Other members were of the same opinion at the commencement of the meeting, but, upon it being made known that the Regent was contributing something to the Olympic funds, they agreed to the competition being held.
