PROPOSED AGREEMENT ACTION FOR MUTUAL SUPpJ (from Our Resident R ported I WELLINGTON'. An agreement has been drawn between the United Mine Worker, of New Zealand and the Coomen',Sj Union creating an alliance cf their respective forces in the event w either being involved in an in,., dustria! dispute. The principal provisions ot ts agreement are:— M (1) Seamen are to refuse to car", coal should miners be engaged ij fight, and to give financial support necessary. '1 (2) Miners are to refuse to prod* coal for "scab” ships if the are engaged in a fight, and to g, financial support if necessary. (3) Before either union takes acfij which may Involve the other, the otfc union is to be consnlted. (4) These proposals are to be „ mitted to the rank and file of be unions for endorsement. Both parties to the compact i' seeking new agreements with the ployers. Claims for increases in pay, andm improved conditions of e m were recently advanced by the seasfl and the miners have done the same.' Members of the National Council ■ the Miners' Union recently decided 1 make the following claims upon liffl mine owners to cover ail districtasl 7J per cent, increase in wage rat*?; 5 per cent, increase in tonnage at” yardage rates, and 5 per cent, inertw in timber rates. It is claimed ttet there would be a weekly miuimumJ £4 12s 6d for all adult workers, youth' to be paid in proportion. Ten day holiday for all workers, with serrtfl of one year or more, is suggested, a; there are other claims covering detat' of mining work.
