MASONS CELEBRATE

SCOTTISH JUBILEE The installation of Sir Frederick Whitaker on November 30, 1877, as grand master, began the North Island District Grand Lodge of Freemasons (Scottish constitution), which celebrated its 50th anniversary last evening. Mr. M. J. Bennett, the district grand master, presided. After the lodge was opened, representatives from sister lodges were received. Mr. John Hume, district grand secretary, described the past grand masters. Sir Frederick Whitaker’s death had occurred in December. 1891, and in the following August the late Mr. W. McCulloch was installed as his successor. After remaining in office for 27 years, Mr. McCulloch resigned. His death occurred at Thames three years ago. Mr. William Handley was installed as grand master in July, 1919. and on his resignation, on accoimt of ill-health, in May, 1923, he was succeeded by Mr. Bennett.
