NORTH AUCKLAND EVENT

VICTORY FOR J. TIERNEY WHANGAREI, Sunday. The 80-mile cycle road race from Whangarei to Dargaville, staged yesterday, was won by J. Tierney, a Whangarei rider.. Shortly after 10 a.m. the race started. At Dargaville the positions were as follow: J. Tucker arrived at 1.10 p.m. and left at 1.30 p.m.; J. Tierney and C. Wabourne arrived at 1.10 p.m. and left at 1.14 p.m.; Cross arrived at 1.14 p.m. and left at 1.17 p.m.; J. Allen arrived at 1.10 p.m. and left at 1.13 p.m.; W. Stewart arrived at 1.22 p.m. and left at 1.24 p.m.; W. Hill arrived at 1.38 p.m. and left at 1.39 i p.m.; J. Marlow arrived at 1.40 p.m., but did not continue the race; J. Dean, Auckland, did not arrive. A big crowd of spectators assembled to watch the cyclists arrive and refreshments were provided. J. Tierney, Whangarei, was the first to return, arriving at 3.41 p.m. T. Cross, Whangarei, arrived three minutes later.
