SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ELECTIONS THIS EVENING Throughout the Auckland Province householders in the school districts will meet this evening to elect school committees for the ensuing year. In recent years interest in these elections has decreased, showing that the householders are generally satisfied with existing conditions. A movement is on foot to' hold the elections every second year, it being considered that a committee has now little time to become used to th e work. Biennial elections would rectify this and also save expense. The department has intimated that it will consider the suggestion. The Education Board has been receiving inquiries asking whether a husband and wife could take part in the elections. The legal position is that if either a husband or a -wife is qualified as a householder both are qualified and both can take part in an election as voters or candidates.
