STRANGLED IN MID-AIR
ITALIAN ACE KILLED “AN IRREPARABLE LOSS” r (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright} (Australian Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. A tragic aviation accident is reported from Rome. General Guidoni attempted to make a parachute descent from his own airplane. He jumped out, but crashed to the ground and was killed. The parachute, which had been strapped to General Guidoni’s back, failed to open. It is believed that the cords strangled him before he could open the apparatus. His death is described as an irreparable loss to Italian aviation. General Guidoni was the Italian ace supreme in the war. Both as an inventor and as a builder of airplanes his sway had been unchallenged since 1911. Almost all the new types of planes built in Italy have been the outcome of his fertile brain and mechanical skill. He had attended aeronautical conferences in England, France, and the United States.
