MISSION IN MELANESIA
MORE FUNDS WANTED SYNODS RECOMMENDATION (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON. Sunday. Speaking at the General Synod, Bishop Molyneux. Assistant-Bishop in the Missionary Diocese in Melanesia, appealed for greater financial support. lie suggested that synod : hould adopt a resolution recommending to the board of missions that the Melanesian Finance. Board's quota be raised from £B,OOO to £ 10,000. The resolution was seconded by the. Rev. G. K. Moir, at one time in the missionai-y diocese of Melanesia. Pie said they did not want luxuries in Melanesia, but necessities. Professor T. PI. Easterfield asked whether the board of missions would stand the £2,000 increase, and said if the increase were granted it was possible some other mission would have to go short. The Rev. F. B. Redgrave, general secretary of the Board of Missions, said there was a great need for increases to all missions. If they increased the sum allowed to Melanesia by £2,000, however, they would have to do likewise with the other missions. Archbishop Averill suggested that it might be possible for the Melanesian Mission to make some special appeal for special things outside the ordinary budget. The following resolution, proposed by Dean Askew, as an amendment to the motion, was then carried:—“That this synod support the Primate's appeal for greater contributions to the Melanesian Mission, and suggests to the Board of Missions that it should bear in mind the fact that a. minimum sum of £IO,OOO a year is required for the efficient working of the Melanesian Mission.”
