Mr. Jule 3 Caesar Malfroy has been appointed clerk of the licensing comnlirtees of Auckland, Waitemata and Parnell, vice Mr. J. H. Finlay. Mr. D. S. Smith was sworn in at Wellington yesterday as a Judge of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice, Sir Charles Skerrett. Major-General R. Young, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., G.O.C. New Zealand Forces, arrived at Frankton Junction this morning by the Limited from Wellington. Tie death is announced from Wellington of Mr. John Breen, one of Wellington’s most enthusiastic yachtsmen. He had followed the sport for 15 years. Two years ago Mr. Breen was injured through the yacht which he was painting falling on him. Mr. J. Norrie and Mrs. Norrie, who recently retired from the positions of librarian and assistant at Leys Institute, the former to be chief librarian at Wellington, received presentations from subscribers last evening. Mr. Norrie was presented with an engraved inkstand and a fountain pen, and Mrs. Norrie with a fruit bowl. Their good work in the local library was referred to by several speakers.
