SEDDON MEMORIAL COLLEGE

The Devonport Borough Council, in granting a small donation to the Seddon Memorial College last evening, held that the idea of appealing to the local bodies for aid in carrying on a public education institution was “a beggary of statesmanship." The Technical College should not have to go begging for money to buy equipment. Mr. T. Walsh said that while the Government and the school argued about the finding of the money the pupils suffered; any money granted sholud carry a “tag,” that, in the opinion of the council, the Education Department sholud provide the funds needed for carrying on the school.
