READERS PREFER FICTION
LEYS INSTITUTE LIBRARY Borrowers at the Leys Institute Library last .year preferred fiction to a very marked extent. In all 52,153 novels were taken from the shelves, general works totalling 16,037, juvenile 2,881, travel 961, the i|mainder falling away rapidly. This was the report to the annual meeting of subscribers last evening. The books now available number 13,236 in the general department, and 15,901 in the reference department. Last year the receipts totalled £1,373 12s, including a subsidy of £750 from the estate of the late Mr. W. Leys. Messrs. J. B. Johnson, R. A. Rew, and Captain H. H. Sergeant were appointed to represent the subscribers.
