NEARLY COMPLETED
DEVONPORT WHARF HARBOUR IMPROVEMENT Seventy-five per cent, of the deck area of the new Devonport wharf is completed, according to the report of the engineer of the Auckland Harbour Board. At the board meeting on Tuesday Mr. D. Holderness reported that the whole of the piles for this wharf had been driven with the exception of seven raker piles. The total, number of piles driven to date was 273. Work on the superstructure was being pushed ahead, 1,772 square feet of falsework had been erected and 2.00 ft square feet of deck area had been concreted during the period. The balance of the steelwork for the shelter over the passenger wharf was now completed and would be erected as fast as the newly-concreted decking became available. The dredger Hapai had completed cleaning up the outer berth on the west side of King’s Wharf. Approximately 3,200 cubic yards of silt were removed and, as this contained considerable quantities of rubbish and wire ropes, it was necessary to dump this at; sea. On the 3rd inst. the Hapai went to Devonport to complete the dredging of the approach to the new wharf and had removed 4.400 cubic yards. The suction dredger had recommenced pumping into the western reclamation and had pumped 8,350 cubic yards during the period.
