SUSPICIOUS THEFT

£156 MISSING STOLEN FROM WORKING MEN’S CLUB Suspicious circumstances surround the theft of £156 from the Auckland Workingmen’s Club, Kitchener Street, on Tuesday. The money was taken from the till in the bar and placed in a bag which was put in the safe. The safe door was shut but not locked. This was at 9 o’clock in the morning. Mr. J. W. Robertson, manager of the club, who handled the money, left the room shortly afterwards, but when he returned the money had disappeared. There were only a few members of the club on the premises at the time, but the stewards were in the bar. Anyone wishing to enter the room in which the money was placed would have to do so by the main entrance from Kitchener Street. No suspicious individuals had been seen loitering about the building.
