GIRL THIEF

BROTHER KEEPS WATCH INTRUDER IN HERNE BAY The sight of a small boy wandering along Marine Parade, Herne Bay, on Tuesday evening, with a pair of girl’s shoes in his hand, roused the curiosity of some of the residents nearby. He told them, when they inquired, that he was taking the shces to be repaired. A few minutes late a girl slipped out of a window of the house near where the conversation took place. She was in stockinged feet. The sum of £ 4 in notes, and some odd shillings, had been stolen from the house. It appears that the girl, whose shoes were in the keeping of her young brother, had been working as a maid at the house in question, but she had left some time previously. At about six o’clock on Tuesday evening, knowing that the family would be at dinner, the girl returned to the house, and entered through a window. Her brother, with the girl’s shoes in his possession, kept watch outside. Evidently the noise of the girl searching one of the rooms roused the suspicions of the present maid, who on investigation found the ex-maid crouching in one corner of the room. ' She grappled with the intruder, but could not hold her. and the young thief made off to join her brother. The police are making inquries.
