BIG FIRE NEAR NAPIER

FIVE BUILDINGS DESTROYED INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED Press Association. NAPIER, To-day. A block of five buildings in the centre of Taradale, five miles from Napier, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The buildings were occupied by T. H. Crutchely, a baker, G. Lines, a hardware store owner, M. J. Carrie, a tailor, and Miss JefTares, a dressmaker. Mr. Cnutchely says his house was broken into on Tuesday night when the key of the bakehouse was stolen. Last night he heard an intruder below, but received no answer to his challenge. A fire broke out in the bakehouse shortly after, although there had been no fire there since Tuesday morning. All the occupants escaped in their night attire. The absence of water prevented the Napier firemen from helping.
