NO EXECUTIONER
GREECE’S PREDICAMENT CANT KILL CRIMINALS The Greek Government is having trouble trying to execute its dangerous criminals, but not because the courts fail to impose sentences calling for execution. The recent death of the State executioner has brought about a situation that is causing the astute lawmakers to puzzle over a means to have their sentences carried out, inasmuch as no one seems willing to take his place. Wide publicity was given the fact that the State had an opening for a conscientious worker whose job be simply to remove from this sphere an occasional murderer or dangerous criminal. The wages are good and the position comparatively easy. Despite the interesting prospectus, not a single application has been received and to all appearances none will be. With little alternative, the legislators now are discussing the question of executing criminals with the aid of firing squads.
