BENDIGO GOLD BOWLS

WIN FOR MOUNT EDEN FINAL MATCH DECIDED The final match of the Bendigo Gold Bowls Competition, played under the auspices of the Auckland Bowling Centre at the Carlton Green yesterday, resulted in Mount Eden defeating Remuera by 25 points to 16. In the semi-finals, Howick commenced badly against Mount Eden, and on the 13th head the score was 17-7, in the latter’s favour. Howick made a wonderful recovery, and was only defeated by three at the finish, the socre being 20-17. Remuera defeated Devonport easily at the finish of the other semi-final, the scores being 19-10. The fine play of the front division of the Mount Eden team was the most outstanding feature of the final, and so well did it play that at the end of the ninth head the team was leading by 13 to 2. Although Remuera’s play improved and it notched a couple of threes, it could not gain the lead. Ryan, the Remuera skip, had an unenviable time when his front division was being beaten, but he played fine bowls. Both of the skips played some very good shots. Mr. J. Pascoe, president of the Auckland Centre, at the conclusion of the match presented the winners with the miniature gold bowls, and congratulated both teams on their performances.
