KING COUNTRY NOTES
The Minister of Railways, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, advised the Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting that he is investigating further the chamber’s request for better Trucking facilities at the Taumarunui station. Officers for the incoming year were elected:—President, Mr. A. E. Laird; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. F. Brinkman. W. Forbes and D. McXab; council, Messrs. A. Venn, C. A. Boles, T. P. Davis, W. Girvin, M. H. Wilks, W. Maud, L. Bakewell, N. R. Melsaac, E. J. Guthrie and P. Keller; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Caitcheon; auditor, Mr. W. Hughes. An honorarium of 15 guineas was voted to the secretary. Mr. Caitcheon.
Mr. C. J. Rolleston, M.P. for Wuitomo, has forwarded to the Ohura County Council advice received from the Minister of Lands to the effect that the council’s representations,
together with those of other King Country bodies, asking for further reductions in the rental values of vacant Crown sections in the county is being considered, and a report will be soon obtained covering the whole question.
With a fourth consecutive win, Mr. R. Patterson secured first place in the Manunui Pigeon Club’s first event of the second series from South. The race was from Taihape, and resulted: R. Patterson’s Assurance. 1.028.5yds a minute, 1; D. Andrew’s Blue Bell, 1,024.4yd5, 2; J. Langwell’s Florent* 1,020.7yd5, 3; D. Watson’s Silver Star, 991.8yd5, 4.
