“POPPY DAY” DRIVE
FLOWER-SALE ON FRIDAY A serious attempt to beat the sale?, record for “Poppy Day’* is to be made on Friday. The Returned Soldiers Association hopes that more than 40,00'* flowers will be sold. Big supplies of the poppies which are made in France by widows and orphans of soldiers, have been imported. Actually there are about 40,000 small flowers and fairly large number of big ones. Last year the day’s sales amounted to 35,362. Just prior to “Poppy Day/* 1927, “Anonymous” sent a gift of .£lO to the fund. A similar letter and gift were received to-day. The great body of sales people will be officially under the Mayoress, Mr®. Campbell, who will be assisted by suburban mayoresses. Associations which will help in the drive include the Na\ y League. Victoria League, Commercial Travellers’ Association. Ex-Serv Women’s Association. Query Club. Mutual Club, Ht. John Ambulance, R.S.A., W.C.T.U., I 0.0 F . Y.M.C.A Y.W.C.A., Plunket Society, Salvation Army. Benevolent Society, and Northcote Progress League.
