MUSEUM DECLINES REQUEST FOR CANOE
AMERICAN FILM PROJECT The Auckland Museum Council has declined to permit Mr. Alexander Marky, the American film director, to use the large war canoe in the museum in connection with his New Zealand picture. Mr. Marky was anxious to secure Toki-a-Tapiri, as the canoe is known to the Maoris, for the Universal picture which he is making ddth an AllMaori cast. The canoe has been in the possession of the Museum for many years. It was built on the East Coast. Prior to the Waikato wars it was well-known on the Manukau. Canoes will be assembling under Mr. Marky*s instructions from all parts of the North Island next week. The Government is actively co-operating and assisting with transport facilities. Mr. Marky and his party are still at Rotorua. Patiti Warbrick, who made his film debut in Mr. Rudall Hayward’s “Te Kooti’s Trail.” has been secured for on© of the leading roles.
