Gay Macs and Vivid Brollies Are Seen at Avondale

Even the downpour of the early morning did not deter many o£ Auckland's enthusiastic- feminine racegoers from attending the opening of the Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Avondale to-day, but they came prepared for showers, and the flimsy frocks and wraps that appeared so blithely at Ellerslie last week were left at home. Madame was m a tailored mood to-day, and almost w ithout exception she wore a close-fitting hat of felt with a suit of tweeds or a coat of substantial texture. Raincoats and brollies provided the colour relief of the day. for they appeared in every conceivable tone, and even if the day did turn wet again one was sore of the solace of a fashion rainbow.
