ALSATIAN DOGS
BREED BECOMES POPULAR FIRST SHOW TO-MORROW The first annual show of the New Zealand Alsatian Club, which is to be held at Auckland to-morrow, is an eloquent tribute to the growing popularity of Alsatian dogs within the Dominion and particularly in the Auckland district. For the first time in this country Alsatians of all ages and sizes will compete for valuable cups and trophies, and opportunity will be taken to demonstrate to patrons of the show the beauty, intelligence and fidelity of the breed. It is a far cry from Queen Street to the original habitat of this dog. the Black Forest of Germany, where it is being utilised in many avenues, but in New Zealand the breed is finding a niche, and its admirers look forward confidently to the time when it will be used for driving and controlling sheep and cattle on our stock routes In the hunting of criminals the Alsatian is classed as a useful and valuable sleuth. To-morrow’s show will b© held in Tonson GarJick's old showrooms, in Queen Street, opposite the Civic Square. One of the most attractive features will be a gue;/.ng competition, the prize for which is a valued Alsatian pup.
